BHN is a network of individuals and households living and organising in solidarity with with refused asylum seekers to end forced destitution in Bristol. To this end we have a network of host ‘families’ and also a large house for men in Fishponds which can host 9 single people (plus hosts). We support people with accommodation and provide opportunities for creative community involvement whilst also working with people on the legal side of their case.
We are currently recruiting new people to join our dynamic team. Could you be one of them – or do you know someone who might be interested?
Specifically we are looking for:
– Two new Trustees: Trustees are those who ‘hold’ the organisation, through regularly (bi-monthly) meetings and roles of responsibility. We are particularly looking to recruit new trustees who have refugee experience themselves and/or experience of developing social enterprises.
– A new live-in house host. BHN’s large men house has a core team of live-in volunteers, including a couple from Gambia. We are currently seeking one or two new hosts who are passionate about social justice, skilled in facilitation and/or pastoral work, and who want to build a strong community life among destitute asylum seekers. We offer subsidised accommodation (including bills and basic food) in a culturally diverse community with rich opportunities for personal development, training and learning. Read more about this role
– A new ‘mediator’. Our mediation team, trained in narrative conflict resolution, regularly visits the Fishponds house and works with the team and members there to resolve potential conflicts and disagreements. This role would suit a person with some experience of working in inter-cultural or refugee contexts, although we will provide training and support as part of the role.
